An energy efficient Google search site?

March 26, 2008 – 3:05 pm
The next time you want to search for something on the web, try going to ‘www.blackle.com’ instead of your usual search engine. The page you get looks remarkably like Google, and queries you type in are fed through to Google, but there’s one obvious difference. Instead of the generous amount of white space which has characterised Google’s home page since its 1998 launch, the page is mostly black. Heap Media, the Australian company behind Blackle, claim that black pixels take less power than white and so using their search saves energy. They believe that small things matter when it comes to reducing our energy use, limiting our C02 output and reducing the likely extent of global warming as a result of human activity. Do I really Need a Website?

March 26, 2008 – 3:48 am
My answer will always be the same answer, Yes, if you are in business, no matter what type or how small, you should have a website, if you don't you could be losing business to competitors that do. However, it's not enough that you just have a website. You must have a professional looking site if you want to be taken seriously. Nowadays people often search online first before buying a product or service. Therefore, your website may be the first time people form an impression about your business. For example, if you are builder it would be advisable to have a website that shows a picture portfolio of your work so people get an indication of the type and quality of work you offer. A picture can speak a thousand words. The beauty of the internet is that it enables businesses of any size to compete against the larger companies. If you ...

Perhaps you've heard about "Negative SEO" or "Google bowling," where your competitors use spam techniques seemingly on your behalf to knock down your site. Ethically-challenged search marketers are once again bringing a black eye to the industry by intentionally using spam techniques to get their competitors penalized. And what can you do about it? Not much, except to complain to Google that this is the wrong way to operate. Google has choices and we need to scream that they make some better ones. Does your website look like spam to search engines?

March 26, 2008 – 2:08 am
Is your website nowhere to be seen in Google? It might be that Google doesn't like your website because it looks like spam. Check the following list to find out whether your website might look like spam or not. 1. Domain name factors that can indicate a spammy website: The domain names of spammy websites are often very long and contain many hyphens. Those domain names often contain commercial high value keywords (the keywords for which you receive lots of spam messages that we don't want to mention here). Spammy domains are often registered by people who own a very large number of domains. The more domains a person owns, the more likely it is that the quality of a single domain isn't high. Spammy domains are often very young and have a short registration period. Low quality domains also often use .info, .cc, .us ...

How come SEO experts own sites do not rank well?

March 5, 2008 – 9:42 am
Many of our website customers ask us about optimising their websites for better rankings in search engines. They are often courted by various Search Engine Optimisations 'specialists' trying to make them part with hard earned cash with empty promises of guaranteed high rankings. A question to our customers is always 'How do these SEO experts own websites rank in Google?', often many do not appear anywhere near the top except when using an obscure keyword or key phrase. Furthermore, proposals from these companies usually involve heavy investment in Google Adwords first and foremost. This begs the question, is optimising websites for search engines really as relevant as everyone thinks? Relevant inbound links still seem to be one of the most important factors, so is creative blogging, forum posting and social bookmarking the best way forward?
